A highlight from the Chinese Grand Prix …
Let’s appreciate what’s going on here.
- Zhang Wangli is a junior, 19 years old.
- she weighed in at 65.14kg
- World Record at 63kg is 145kg
- Together with her 113kg Snatch (only made it on her 3rd attempt) this is 2kg over the Total WR for the 63kg.
- Zhang the lightest female to ever clean and jerk 150kg in international competition
Wlift84 thinks she is the very likely the lightest woman to clean and jerk 150kg in competition.
She looks like a cute lil’ hamster… who can lift way more than me…
The cleans are so insanely impressive. She cleaned 142 at 62.56 in the Nationals, but it was very hard and the jerk was nowhere close. Now she’s basically 63 training weight and 150 didn’t even look like a max!
It’ll be very interesting to see what Deng Wei can answer in Housten because now Zhang is clearly a threat (assuming she won’t go 69 becaus that gap to Xiang Yanmei is still huge).
I truly welcome Zhang Wanglie’s entry into the 63; she’s solid like a mini Xiang Yanmei. Deng Wei’s lifting has always concerned me because her clean recoveries look so difficult. She actually bombed in 2013 because she was unable to recover in any of her 3 cleans (though she was a 58 then).
I checked it again and she actually cleaned the 133 on her 2nd+3rd but had no real power left.
Deng Wei’s career feels strange, she has four Youth/Junior WRs and two WC titles but it still seems like underachievement. As 58 she snatched 110 at 16 & 17 (IWF) but on the other hand only once more than that at 63. The 2013 bomb was a waste and she got burned last year by Lin out of nowhere despite having another WR for some minutes. I feel like ever since 63 she wants to try 110-115-118 in the snatch, but it just fails.

I assume that’s the National Youth Games, not sure? Some other recognizable names on that list (Jiang Huihua, Hou Zhihui, Meng Cheng, Caoshi Jiaqi, Zhou Jun, Liu Weijian, Liu Quan, Yuan Chengfei, Sun Yongjie), hopefully we’ll get some video if interesting lifts happen.
She did 115(118x)/150/265 at 65.60 in the NYG in case interested ppl don’t know where to look. No video (yet).
