Meanwhile in Belarus …
First new Andrei Aramnau training video in ages!
With the weights he pushes now he will be in good shape for the 2013 worlds.
200kg Snatch (well… almost).
Aramnau said something like “Fuuuck. Enough.” and then the cameraman made some snarky comment that can’t really be translated.
240kg Jerk x2 (See his older 240kg BTN Power Jerk Triple here)
Since this imposter does look nothing like the Aramnau we know, how about an Aramnau Mullet Photoshop contest?
Here is the blank, and here is my entry: Glorious Mullet
Thanks to Ghost for submitting.

Hope he does actually lift at worlds this year
Jay Blais says
i never expected to see him again. I will be pulling for him…..pun unintentional
timshaya says
Sounds like the cameraman said what roughly translates to “now you’re pushing it” in the sense of “now you’re being arrogant”
Thrand says
@ Klokov: so many videos of X-fit exercises, deadlifts variations and BTN presses…but can you do this??
Respekt to Aryamnov, Ilin’s main threat if he decides to move up to 105.
finsnatch says
Oh you mean something like this?
245kg Jerk by Klokov, easy! And he says his best is 262kg

Thrand says
Thanks for the link. I’ll add a few points:
– Aryamnov is much faster and explosive with the 240×2 than Klokov is with the 245×1.
– Klokov trains @ 110 or slightly above, and is likely above 105 in this video. Probably the same for Aryamnov and for most 105 lifters.
– This video is at best from early 2012. I don’t think he can do it now, much less with the same ease as Aryamnov. That was my point.
Nothing against Klokov, an excellent lifter. But – imho – Aryamnov is better and, if gets his act together, will give Klokov no chance.
Aldr says
Aramnau is probably more talented than Klokov but he does not have a good competition record for the last few years. He looks like he could be 115-120 in the new vids. Let’s wait and see what he does in Poland. I bet he will come up with some excuse and not show up. It is very unclear that Aramnau can beat Akkaev – if both were in top form.
Newmanzzz says
Klokov has push pressed atleast 220kg, I’d also say that you shouldn’t count Klokov or Akkaev out by any means, I’d also venture to say he is well above 105kg in the video, looks alot fatter than he was in London 2k8.
But Aramnau’s explosiveness isn’t matched by many lifters.
Thrand says
Fair words, thanks. Aryamnov is probably above 105, as his Klokov in most of his vids.
I’m not counting out Akkaev or Klokov, who are superb lifters. I’m saying an Aryamnov in top shape is better than them – for the present time – and that Andrey can give Ilya a good fight more than Khadzhi or Dmitriy.
Andrey is very fast indeed.

Well, this doc says that Klokov and Demanov will be the 105 kg category lifters at the worlds.
Gregor says
It lists the same lifters as in the list I posted on the 2013WWC Page.
https://allthingsgym.com/2013wwc/
It lists Klokov an Sabanichev in 105, Demanov as reserve.
biglifter says
Klokov is very strong his work ethic is second to none, yet he has never been a gifted weightlifter. He works very hard and sure has great skill and genetics but guys like illya and aramnau are in another class of talent. I was still shocked at how easy armnau made 205kg look in the snatch-as well as 245 in the cj- and would have got them if he timed it better at nationals, all as a 20 year old with a few years of training behind him-while at the time known for not being a guy who trained hard- I like klokov more as a lifter due to his personality and work ethic and dislike armnau for his lack of work ethic and lack of carrying in general-drunk driving, not willing to train, partying all the time etc- yet you can’t deny the man has a natural talent for the sport.
Newmanzzz says
This is true, you can also see just how naturally oly lifting comes to Aramnau with looking at his physique, he is well over 20% BF and is pudgy, wouldn’t be surprised if alot of the 94kg competitors had more LBM than he does, let alone guys like Klokov who are shredded. Yet all this LBM is nothing compared to Aramnau’s speed and power, I doubt the guy can even OHP 315lbs strictly.
Thrand says
(This is not intended as a criticism of your words, I understand what you mean, I am just using them to make a point)
People need to get over this “good looks” obsession. This is WL. The man who lifts the most wins, even if he has no teeth, a protruding stomach, and doesn’t post s**t on FB or YTB.
Klokov is a good-loking guy, a tremendous lifter, and is trying his best to promote WL to the masses. This can only be commendable. But on the platform his physique is worth ZERO points.
A lot of people think that the only way to make WL grow is to have lifters with beautiful physiques showing up in mass media. You know what happens when a PL or WL athlete tries to beautify his/her physique instead of increasing their totals? Their lifts (for all but a few) go down.
WL is a real sport, not “sports entertainment”.
(PS – nothing wrong with BB or with wanting to have a nice physique; but don’t think that a pleasing body that looks good on FB or YTB is gonna be WL or PL’s salvation. It’s not)
Thrand says
Thanks for your reply, a few comments to add:
– Nobody can say that Klokov’s work ethic is second to none. Nobody knows the whole story, nobody knows how his main contenders are training exactly and what specific sacrifices they do. At this level everyone busts his arse, and we should leave it at that. There’s always somebody working harder than we do.
– Klokov is an extremely gifted weightlifter. At this level everybody is. Are Aryamnov and Ilin more gifted still? Definitely.
– We should be careful when saying that Andrey lacks work ethic or discipline; and we should be especially careful when addressing his (supposed) problems with alcohol and partying. The simple truth is that we don’t know the whole story. We know what the media has fed us. As an example, there have been problems in the BLR WL team with the former chief trainer, Goncharov, which remain unclear. But the media has been quick to burn Andrey.
Just saying that we have to keep an open mind and question everything.
biglifter says
Well I’m going off what his teammates and coaches have said about klokov and his training intensity, also unlike most weightlifters he is very strict with his diet more then most. Anyone who is a pro is gifted but some guys near the bottom could be higher if they had better training no question about that. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Andrei alcohol problems are well documented he himself said he wouldn’t give it up since he he said it helps him recover-absolutely no science to back that up- and his coaches have said he could take training a lot more seriously. Its more a compliment too him that he does so well despite not training as well as he can. I just want him to be active again his 2008 performance at the olympics stole the show and it was a shame we haven’t really see him at an international event since then since he would have won them all if he was on.
Chris Orcutt says
Do we have any word on if Illya is actually competing as a 105 this year???
Gregor says
Ilya will not compete this year.
Next year he will lift at 105.

Klokov vs Akkaev vs Aramnau vs Ilyin???!!! Yes please
biglifter says
He is such an insanely gifted weightlifter I just hope he is serious
with his training this time around and has got his alcohol problems
situated. He is one of my favorite lifters to watch perform. Its really
astonishing he has done as well as he has given his notorious lazy
training and alcohol problems. If he had the training mindset of like
klokov he would be totaling more then shw.
Jean-Patrick Millette says
Great to see that he is alive and pushing it hard.
grobpote says
If Aramnau, Klokov and Akkaev would come together and compete just once in this life (and in the best form) I would be perfectly happy 😀
Luc Lapierre says
Add Ilyin and Dolega to the mix.
grobpote says
I am on the same opinion about Ilyin with Klokov. 105 is not for him even taken the fact that he is very talented. I think if he even moved up , he won’t stay there but would go back to his place. Remember Sergey Sirtsov. He moved up to the 108 kgs and didn’t really worked out for him. Almost the same results but looked fat. It’s not that easy to change categories. Gaining 11 kgs of muscle and staying competitive is difficult.
About Dolega: I wouldn’t miss him..
Luc Lapierre says
I agree as well. I thought Ilyin looked quite thick and muscular already at 94kg.
Also, I don’t really get why he wants to move up, since he’s already doing so well where he’s at. Why not make a run at the snatch WR? It’s ripe for the taking (although one of the Ivanovs may very well beat him to it).
Why no love for Dolega?
gym says
Artem Ivanov is Iliyas only real competition in the 94’s… and he’s still returning to health from injury. Aramnau is real competition for him. it’s only right he moves up. anything else would be uncivilized.
gym says
Dude. Have you seen Ilya’s Offseason lifts??? They’re very much so competitive with Aramnau. Klokov is attempting to stray away the competition. that’s all.
