David Bedzhanyan 237kg Clean & (Squat) Jerk from 2009

September 19, 2013 By Gregor Winter

Here is an oldie you might not have seen before.

David Bedzhanyan with a 237kg Clean & Jerk from 2009.

Soiren wrote in saying that,

It was May 2009, Championship of Southern Federal District in Russia, and David Bedzhanyan is just 20 in this video. He did World Record in his 2nd attempt in C&J, and I think this is the biggest in-comp Squat Jerk ever (at least from what we see on youtube).

In 2011 for his 240kg Clean & Jerk his used the Power Jerk.

Update 22.08.2014: David Clean & Jerked 241kg at the 2014 Russian Championships.

Update: Read David’s Interview on ATG.

Thanks to Soiren for submitting.

One of, if not the most, heroic (and successful) efforts at a herculean weight in the history of the sport

Such awesome technique – I doubt many split jerkers with similar strength levels could have held onto that jerk.

Pavel Kuznetsov and Popov did 240+ back in 1987-8 and they weighted under 100kg. It was a different era. Zakarevich lifted 250 in sub 110kg.

Here is another one, KHRAPATY did 235 at 90kg back in 1988. The current record for 94kg catagory is 233 kg after 25+ years. I do not see anyone doing 230kg in 94 till 2016 Olympics.
